The Nike Air Max Deluxe has always been ahead of its time since its release in 1999 and this ‘Throwback Future’ iteration has truly brought it into and beyond 2019. The synthetic textile upper has been crafted with wave-like graphics that run the length of the shoe, treated with an iridescent coating that varies in tone from metallic purple to teal dependant on light. Fused TPU runs from the eyestays around to the mudguard which is in place not only aesthetically pleasing - being decorated with an embossed pink swoosh - but also to secure the fit and provide support. Finally the upper is finished with 3M detailing on the heel tab to ensure visibility in all light conditions. The midsole features a multi-window Air Max unit with pink detailing to contrast the black trim, that also aims to cushion every step.
The Air Max Deluxe has seen a resurgence in popularity on the eve of its twentieth anniversary with new colourways continually being added to it’s roster, including a popular collaboration with skepta dubbed the ‘Never Sleep On Tour’. This colourway, without a doubt, is inspired primarily by Nike’s campaign to modernise classic silhouettes but it also touches on the Miami Dolphins’ primary colours which feature on a vast range of silhouettes.
